MENDING WINGS: DANCING OUR PRAYERS
Mending Wings is a non-profit, Native American youth organization located on the Yakama Nation in Washington State, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. “Dancing Our Prayers” (DOP) are teams of Native teens who travel locally, regionally and nationally sharing their culture, spirituality and way of life. The youth and staff of Mending Wings drum & dance in full regalia, perform drama, give testimony and speak on conciliation issues between Native and non-Native America. At GYPC, we will begin with a Waashat song/prayer. After that Corey Greaves will speak and tell his story and the story of Mending Wings and Native/Yakama people's struggle within the Church to be who Creator made us to be in all of our cultural ways. After this, our drummers and dancers will come up and share 3-5 dances/songs. One of these songs will be a community dance called a Potato Dance. We will close with an honor song where we will call a few key people to come and stand around the drum with us as we close out our time together.
