Questions

  1. What does a broken institution or government look like? What are the signs that confirm for you a system is broken?
  2. The people in the book of Judges are anxious for a leader. The Parable of the Trees suggests that they ended up with a "bramble" of a leader instead of a healthy fruitful tree. How can you spot a "bramble" of a leader today?
  3. What does it mean that Jotham spoke out against the corrupt Abimalech with a poem/parable/song?
  4. What are the the poems/stories/songs that you turn to for speaking out against corruption?
  5. If you were to make some art exposing the world's anxiety about leadership and corrupt individuals' willingness to claim it, what would your artistic witness be about?

Well our political system is jacked to no end
You die of exhaustion just trying to list
all the people, the problems, they all stay the same
you’ll drop or go broke just defending your name.

But, don’t you worry, don’t you fret
Just as long as there’s fund to cash the check

That’s what matters, important to you
there’s money in the bank and the bills are paid too.

Oh yeah, oh no!

Well now just look at the trees, examine their roots
They don’t need no leaders, they don’t need no troops
And, still these trees, they manage to climb
They fight back the brambles and kill back the vines

What is it that you’re trying to prove
with your big fancy truck and your nice house to boot.

If you could share just a bit of the wealth
us 99% would be doing just swell

Oh yeah, oh no!

Well our political system is jacked to no end
You die of exhaustion just trying to list
all the people, the problems, they all stay the same
you’ll die or go broke just defending your name.

But, don’t you worry, don’t you fret
Just as long as there’s fund to cash the check

That’s what matters, important to you
there’s money in the bank and the bills are paid too.

Oh yeah, all right!
