YOUTH 2023 Travel Tips!

By Chris Wilterdink

Every group arranges their own travel for YOUTH 2023. Daytona Beach has an airport (DAB) that is about 15 minutes via bus/taxi/shuttle from the YOUTH 2023 hotel (Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort). The other major airports within one hour drive are in Jacksonville and Orlando. There are bus service and other shuttle options for youth leaders to get their groups to Daytona Beach from either Orlando (MCO) or Jacksonville (JAX) – leaders are encouraged to research the best and most cost-effective way to get to YOUTH 2023.

There is NO NEED FOR A VEHICLE ON SITE. Once you get to our event location in Daytona Beach, everything is within a two-block radius. There is onsite parking available for a fee, either public pay parking lots or pay parking lots with the hotel.

The room rate for the event hotel (YOUTH 2023 hotel - Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort) can be extended up to three days before or after July 25-28. So, if your group wants some extra beach time, or even to look for other service opportunities beyond what YOUTH 2023 offers, go for it!

Service/Mission Opportunities as you travel! The United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) of the North Central Jurisdiction have partnered with YOUTH 2023 to help groups identify mission and service opportunities as they travel. All youth groups from the U.S. are invited to share in this opportunity. Groups from the North Central Jurisdiction can request funding from UMVIMNCJ for their mission! Stefanie Williams is the dedicated staff person to help you as a leader combine mission/service experiences either before or after YOUTH 2023. Stefanie can be contacted at y2023@umvim.org Now is the time to reach out and share your interest!

The registration cost for the event is per person. Registration includes lunch and dinner on July 26 and July 27. Food as you arrive on July 25 and as you depart on July 28 are yours to organize. You are also responsible for determining the best breakfast plan for your group. During registration, make sure you accurately list dietary needs, including food allergies for your participants! We will ensure that there are suitable lunches and dinners including, but not limited to, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, etc. options.

When you use the registration portal, you will be linked to the Daytona Oceanfront to make your hotel reservations. The registration cost for the event will be calculated along with the total cost for the hotel reservations you make. Spend time making a rooming plan before you register. This will ensure that you are reserving the best number of rooms for your group, this will allow the hotel to more easily place your group in adjoining rooms. Rooms can sleep up to four people per room, and groups should follow their own Safe Sanctuaries/abuse prevention guidelines as they make rooming plans.

The best hotel rooms at the Daytona Hilton Oceanfront Resort will probably go first, so if you want that oceanfront balcony, be among the first to register and book!

Hotels do have parking available, at a small extra cost per vehicle. You will not need a vehicle for any YOUTH 2023 activities once you arrive at the event.

Adult leaders/chaperones coordinate registration for their whole group and make hotel room assignments. Obviously, lodging costs stay lower the more people that you have staying in one room. The event hotel allows for up to four people per room in rooms that have two queen beds. However, if your local church’s Safe Sanctuaries® or abuse-prevention policy recommends only having one person to a bed, factor that into your budget as you plan. You will notice YOUTH 2023’s abuse prevention language as part of the Behavior Covenant that participants complete as part of registration.

YOUTH 2023 is not organizing any official support for groups who want to extend their trips in Orlando at Disney/Universal/LegoLand/SeaWorld/Gatorland. (We’re sure there are more options that we didn’t type!) However, if your group has interest in that kind of fun, as the leader, plan your travel to either arrive or depart from Orlando and look for group any group deals on tickets or lodging for those areas.

Registration includes a Behavior Covenant, a Release/Waiver Form, and information related to accommodations, allergies, and medical treatment in the case of emergency. Please help guardians complete these forms accurately.
