Love Like an Oasis

By Previous Sadadzi

“What is an oasis?” some may wonder. An oasis is lush green area in the midst of a desert, centered around a natural spring or a well. It is almost a reverse island, in a sense, because it is a tiny area of water surrounded by a sea of sand or rock. To me, an oasis is more – it’s a great example of the concept of love and how to share it with people from all corners of the world and of different races.

Just like an oasis can withstand the harshest conditions on earth, love holds strong against anything. As long there is true love in our hearts, we are more than conquers. In a world which is full of injustice, love is the only thing that can help us achieve unity and offer others a better life.

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life.

An oasis, if you try to visualize it, is surrounded by a sea of sand but gives hope to the animals and birds of the desert. When love emanates from deep inside our hearts it can provide that same hope. It can calm the storms in our lives and make dark days brighter. It can give us courage and assurance that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

If we try to understand and live according to the words from Corinthians, I see a new world filled with love that emanates from deep inside our precious hearts.

Love is patient, love is kind... love puts up with all things, trusts in all things, hopes for all things, endures all things. - 1 Corinthians 13:4,8

If love is patient why are we fighting with our loved ones? Why is there no peace? Why are there so many homeless people? Why do some people despise others based only upon their race? Why do some people have nothing to eat while others abuse the privileges they have? If the Lord gave us his only begotten son, why can’t we have that kind of love? Why can’t we help our neighbor because of the love that we share, who is Jesus Christ? I understand that love found in Jesus Christ never expects anything in return - it just loves and brings hope and a better place for so many people.

Let’s love as Christ LOVED US. Let us love like an oasis.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Do you believe love can restore the identity of an individual? If so why do so many people fail to love with an open heart?

  2. Is it possible to have the unconditional love the Lord has for us? If so why do we not always strive to love our neighbors?

  3. Trust, Faith and Hope are the branches of love? As a Christian, or just, a human being do you truly believe that?
