GYPC 2026: Visas and Visa Processing

By Chris Wilterdink

If you are a United States Citizen, a Citizen of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) or a Swiss Citizen, you do not need a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland as of October 2025. We encourage GYPC attendees to regularly check for updates from Ireland or their country of origin in prior to July 2026 in order to have up-to-date requirements met for entering Ireland.

For those outside of the USA, EU, EEA, and Switzerland, you may need a visa in order to enter the Republic of Ireland. You can find the visa application, requirements, and fees here: https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/visas-for-ireland/

Sometimes, the visa application process can involve costs and in-person interviews at an Irish Embassy or Consulate in your region. If you determine that you require a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland at https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/visas-for-ireland/ it is important to create a plan to apply and pay for your visa several months prior to your travel. Often, the process can take between 2-4 weeks even after a positive interview at an embassy or consulate. To help with your planning, please consider the actions below:

6-9 months prior to travel:

  • Research Irish embassies or consulates in your home country or neighboring countries.
  • Schedule a visa interview appointment. Consider coordinating the interview appointment with other GYPC attendees from your area. If everyone can interview the same day or within close proximity, it helps the consulate know that the event is legitimate and that several representatives from your region would like to attend.
  • Create a budget for travel to and from the visa appointment, including visa application fees. The visa required would be a standard “visitor” category, which is good for up to 90 days.
  • Complete any online applications prior to the in-person interview
  • Research flights and flight costs.
  • If you require additional written support or documentation in your visa application process, you may request a letter from the organizers of GYPC. https://forms.gle/YR3cscuvVimZZ9sv7/

3-6 months prior to travel:

  • Complete in-person interview.
  • Collect information regarding processing time. When will you know if your visa is approved or if you need to appeal?
  • File appeal if necessary.
  • Research and reserve flights to Dublin on travel days. GYPC arrival date is July 7, 2026 (any time of day) and departure date is July 11, 2026 (any time of day). Often, the best prices on flights can be found during this timeframe.

0-3 months prior to travel:

  • Ensure multiple copies of a valid passport and your visa are saved in print and digitally. Keep these with your flight itinerary for travel documentation. Provide a copy of these documents to a loved one or trusted party at home.
  • Finalize and purchase flights if you have not already done so.
  • Visit Irish Immigration websites to ensure no changes or additional requirements or fees have been created.
  • Ensure valid passport and visa letter are packed along with your luggage or carry-ons. Include physical and digital copies in addition to the originals.
